Carlisle and Border Art Society

About image

PLEASE NOTE our Facebook page is currently unavailable and will be back as soon as possible.

Carlisle and Border Art Society (CABAS) usually meets each Monday evening to paint, from 7-9 pm.

Our venue:
Denton Holme Community Centre
Morley Street
Carlisle
CA2 5HQ

This is a warm, well light hall, which is an excellent place to paint.

Club meetings gives us a chance to meet up with other members, while continuing with your current art project. We are a friendly group, and enjoy a break part way through the evening, for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. This is a chance to view what other artists are creating in an informal way.

Other activities through the year include exhibitions, painting picnics, a Christmas meal together, and occasional visits to places of interest to artists. From time to time, our Monday evenings are used for an invited artist to demonstrate their techniques to us. We have also formed a special relationship with local artist Robert Brindley, who comes to a few meetings to observe and provide helpful feedback as we work. His latest acrylic landscape workshop with members in June 2023 was also most enjoyable:
If you are interested in joining the art group, or just want further details, please email
Anne Kelly at CABASchair@gmail.com
or Dave Goodfellow at goodfellowdave@gmail.com.

Anyone who is interested in painting can join, whatever their level or their medium. Members range from beginners to those making their living through their art. Although we don’t offer tuition, there is always someone ready to offer advice and encouragement. We can also put you in touch with tutors in various media.

Come and see some of our artwork during September 2023 at Off the Wall Café, Brampton (see EVENTS for further information):

We have a page Featured Artists, giving a sample of work with a brief commentary by individual artists.

There is also a Painting of the Month page, where you can see recently added pieces.

To give you a taster of the variety of work by our talented artists, here are some examples from our recent Tullie House exhibition in May 2023:

I didn’t start painting until a friend persuaded me to join her at an adult education art class. I owe her a lot, having continued painting since that time.
